Posted on 12/17/2013
The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) has named Mr. Dan Gribbon their 2013 Continuation/Educational Options Administrator of the Year.  The principal of Fairvalley High School has numerous years of experience directing his students to achieve excellence. He has filled various roles during his career in education.  Since 2008, Mr. Gribbon, who holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Cal State, San Bernardino, has lead Fairvalley, with prior administrative roles as an Assistant Principal at Las Palmas Middle School.  From 2001-2008 he served at the middle school level as Assistant Principal and, preceding that, from 1994-2001, he taught in the classroom.  His entire educational career has been spent in the Covina-Valley Unified School District.

During his tenure at Fairvalley, the school has attained the title of “Model Continuation High School” award: one of only 27 continuation high schools in the state of California to be presented with this honor. Other celebrated accomplishments include receiving a 6-year WASC accreditation and having a veteran WASC supervisor note that “Fairvalley is the best continuation high school (I) have ever visited".  Mr. Gribbon is proud of the success of Fairvalley’s Art History Institute that allows students to experience the Renaissance time period through different modalities. Last year, this unique learning opportunity was highlighted by a culminating trip to the Huntington Museum.  A brunch that showcased students’ work was attended by parents, students, district and community members to witness the knowledge gained by Fairvalley’s diligent learners.

Fairvalley’s principal facilitates student success and transformation. Mr. Gribbon’s goals for his students have always been to get them ready for their "next step". He strives to make his school a safe and caring environment and “a place where kids want to be”. Taking the time to fully know his students and understand their backgrounds helps him and his staff form individual success plans for them.

Upon notification of his recognition as ASCA’s 2013 Continuation/Educational Options Administrator of the Year, Mr. Gribbon immediately lauded praise to all those who tirelessly serve C-VUSD’s student population: "It is always a huge honor to be recognized by your peers, especially statewide. The award has my name on it but it could have never been accomplished without the support of the Covina-Valley USD, the Fairvalley staff and students and my family who fuel, encourage and inspire me everyday".

C-VUSD offers its highest praise and congratulations to Mr. Dan Gribbon.
