Traweek’s Robotics Club competes in the 2013 Botball Competition

Traweek Middle School is bringing cutting edge learning to its students.  In May 2013, Traweek’s Robotics Club competed in the Western Region Botball Competition at the Shrine Theatre on the campus of USC.  Botball is an educational program that strives to engage students in team-oriented robotics competition to expand their educational experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  Traweek students participated in this event sponsored by the University of Southern California and Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, and competed against 42 other high school and middle school teams in this annual competition.  There were several scoring elements including documentation of progress, presentation of evidence, an interview of team members as well as the competition itself.  Each element had a distinctive score and winners were determined by scoring.  Mr. Rod Zerbel, Traweek’s principal, was very proud and pleased to announce that this middle school’s Robotics Club was one of four teams to be awarded a trophy for their hard work and effort.  They were singled out for a Judges’ Choice award and were presented with the KISS award for their combined score and performance excellence in each category.

Because of Mr. Pickett and Mrs. Ramos, the science teachers who brought this program to Traweek’s students and built the Botball team, Traweek Middle School will now offer Robotics as an elective course and will compete again in the Botball competition this Spring.

Congratulations to Traweek on their honors at Botball 2013!
