In Memory of Lance Cpl. Curtis J. Duarte
July 23, 1990 – August 1, 2012

On May 7th, a ground-breaking ceremony for a memorial plaque and a tree planting was held in memory of Covina High School alumni Lance Cpl. Curtis Duarte, USMC, who was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan on August 1, 2012.  Duarte was a graduate of the class of 2008 and a highly decorated Marine with awards including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  The ceremony took place adjacent to the flag pole on the  front lawn of Covina High School to honor his selfless bravery, extraordinary commitment and immeasurable responsibility to his country.  The Veterans of Foreign Wars organization was on hand to pay tribute to our fallen hero with the presentation of flags.
