District Advisory Committee

The Board of Education of the Covina-Valley Unified School District has established a District Advisory Committee pursuant to Education Code section 17389. The members of the District Advisory Committee shall be representative of the ethnic, age group, and socioeconomic composition of the District, the business community, landowners and renters, teachers, administrators, parents of students, and persons with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes, and land use planning. The District Advisory Committee will advise the District with regard to property of the District which is not needed for school purposes.

The Advisory Committee will be responsible for the following:
  1. Review the projected school enrollment and other data as provided by the District to determine the amount of surplus space and real property.
  2. Establish a priority list of use of surplus space and real property that will be acceptable to the community.
  3. Cause to have circulated throughout the attendance area a priority list of surplus space and real property and provide for hearings of community input to the committee on acceptable uses of space and real property, including the sale of lease of surplus real property for childcare development purposes.
  4. Make a final determination of limits of tolerance of use of space and real property.
  5. Forward to the District’s governing board a report recommending uses of surplus space and real property.

The District will be responsible to provide as much information as necessary to assist the committee in making an informed recommendation to the Board of Education. The District will provide:

  • The historical and projected enrollment data from Davis Demographics
  • Expertise to provide data on property that may be considered surplus. This information would include zoning, valuation data, and options for use.
  • Legal guidance if necessary
