Jennifer Root's Biography
Mrs. Jennifer Root currently serves as the Chief Business Officer of the Covina-Valley Unified School District; a position she has held since July of 2014. 

Mrs. Root has worked in public education for the past 22 years and started her career in education at Merwin Elementary, here in the district, where she served as a teacher for four years. She also taught at Las Palmas Middle school for an additional year before pursuing opportunities in the Alta Loma, Azusa, and Glendora Unified School Districts where she served as an assistant principal for two years and an elementary principal for 11 years before returning to the district as the Director of Student Services.

Mrs. Root earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Riverside, and two master’s degrees from Azusa Pacifica University, in both language development and in school administration. She went on to complete the School Business Management Certification Program at the University of Southern California and is scheduled to complete her doctorate in organizational change and leadership in 2017. She also received her Chief Business Officer Certification from the California Association of School Business Officials.

Among her accomplishments, Mrs. Root was named the Association of California School Administrators (ASCA) Region XV Central Officer Administrator of the Year, ASCA Region XV Elementary Principal of the Year, Azusa Management Association District Elementary Principal of the Year, Azusa CABE Chapter Bilingual Administrator of the Year, and has received the Covina-Valley Administrator’s Association Charter Leadership Award, the Azusa Management Association Charter Leadership Award, and the Farmer’s Insurance Wisdom, Inspiration, and Tenacity Award.

Mrs. Root was delighted to return to the district in 2010 as she has always felt a strong connection to the staff, students, and families in Covina-Valley. Her husband Scott is a graduate of Covina High School and a long-time teacher at both Las Palmas Middle School and Covina High School. 

Mrs. Root is committed to using her foundation in the instructional processes of schools and the school district to create a conduit through which to allow the school district to leverage fiscal resources most effectively to provide the C-VUSD and community with high quality facilities and educational opportunities.
